Security Expert Initiative
ISOC-EMEA was one of 13 European consortium members that signed a two-year contract (2004-2006) with the European Commission to address the areas of security and privacy within the context of the IPv6 protocol.
The European Union and Switzerland provided 5 million Euro in funding for this project. ISOC's involvement was very ably led by Latif Ladid, President of the IPv6 Forum and ISOC Board member. ISOC was involved throughout the entire project, as were the chapters, which provided significant education and dissemination support.
The SEINIT project developed a trusted and dependable security framework. This framework is ubiquitous, works across multiple devices and heterogeneous networks, is organisation independent (inter-operable), and centered around an end-user. In particular, SEINIT defined innovative security models and policies to address the new issues of the pervasive computer world.
The project leader was Thales - a global electronics company serving Aerospace, Defense, and Information Technology markets worldwide. Consortium members were: Alcatel (France), British Telecom (United Kingdom), ENST (France), IABG (Germany), Kyos (Switzerland), T-Systems (Germany), Telscom (Switzerland), Thales Communications (France), Thales Research and Technology (United Kingdom), University College London (United Kingdom), University of Murcia (Spain), Waterford Institute of Technology (Ireland), and the Internet Society - EMEA (Switzerland).
