ISOC Fellowships to the IETF announced
ISOC selects Fellows for IETF meetings – IETF 70, Vancouver; IETF 71 Philadelphia
RESTON, VA, USA AND GENEVA, SWITZERLAND, 14 November 2007 – The Internet Society (ISOC) has announced the names of those selected as Fellows to attend the next two Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) meetings.
As part of its longstanding commitment to technical capacity building, ISOC awards a number of Fellowships for each IETF meeting, sending engineers from developing countries to IETF meetings and pairing them with a more experienced mentor.
"The ISOC Fellowships to the IETF are a very important part of ISOC's capacity building program," says Karen Rose, ISOC's Director of Education and Programs.
"The benefits really flow both ways," says Rose. "The Fellows take back to their own communities practical understanding of standards development and have an opportunity to make global connections with experts in their field of interest. But just as importantly, the Fellows contribute to the IETF, bringing their own expertise and increasing the range of perspectives represented in the standards development process".
This round attracted 190 applications. From this highly qualified field, ISOC awarded six Fellowships for IETF 70, to be held in Vancouver, Canada, from 2-7 December 2007, and five for IETF 71, which will be in Philadelphia, USA, from 9-14 March 2008.
